Biography
Dr. Alfonso Arevalo is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic treatment of the hip, knee, and shoulder.
Dr. Arevalo was born and raised in Greensburg, PA. He graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology. While at Boston University, he captained the school’s club ice hockey team. Upon graduation, Dr. Arevalo began medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in Philadelphia, PA.
After completing medical school, Dr. Arevalo remained in Philadelphia and completed his orthopaedic residency at PCOM, where he gained extensive experience in all facets of orthopaedics, including orthopaedic trauma. While at PCOM, Dr. Arevalo served as chief resident and was awarded the John J. McPhilemy Resident Teaching Award in his final year.
Following residency, Dr. Arevalo pursued a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine surgery at University of Buffalo. While in Buffalo, he received advanced training in arthroscopic surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder. Dr. Arevalo also has a particular interest in the treatment of the athlete’s hip, including hip arthroscopy. Additionally, he gained experience working with a variety of athletes and teams including the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Rochester Americans, and Hilbert College.
Throughout his medical training, Dr. Arevalo has been active in research and education in orthopaedics. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and his research has been presented at the local, regional, and national level. During his training, he served as a member and Vice Chair of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) Residency Assembly Education Committee, where he contributed to the advancement of orthopaedic medical education with orthopaedic training videos and mentorship.
Dr. Arevalo enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and playing ice hockey and golf in his spare time. He joined Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists in 2023 and is currently accepting new patients!
